bringing you the best free math lesson plans and worksheets to explain complex concepts simply

Welcome to MSL!

Our motto: We provide intuitive math instruction thereby ensuring lasting comprehension.

For Elementary Teachers

We have over 300 Powerpoints, Worksheets, and Videos for mathematicians of all ages.

These resources include PowerPoint presentations and Youtube Videos. They are geared towards helping educators prepare their own teaching materials.

We also offer in-person teacher training workshops! Click here to find out more.

For Students & Parents

Our website makes available complete courses in:

Arithmetic and Algebra – We relate learning math to learning a second language in which learners see numbers as adjectives and units as nouns thereby forming the concept of quantities. From there, we need just a few principles (easy and intuitive) upon which we develop all of arithmetic and algebra. Courses include Algebra by Example, The Game of Algebra, and Gateways to Mathematics.

Calculus – The highly acclaimed video series Calculus Revisited ( Single Variable Calculus, Multivariable Calculus Complex Variables, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra) is also available at MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) and YouTube.

We also offer an short guide to calculus, Calculus in the Real World.

We also have a page of custom-animated Youtube Videos that you can watch at your own pace.

MSL Works. Period.

What distinguishes us from others who are endeavoring to do similar things is Professor Gross; a world-renowned math professor who has effectively taught students at all ends of the academic spectrum. He specializes in presenting difficult mathematics topics in user-friendly, meaningful ways that still contain the necessary rigor. Most importantly, his students, from all walks of life, have no difficulty internalizing what he teaches and thereby improve both their critical thinking skills and their chances for greater upward mobility.

Our mission is to present his works and supplementary material so that all who use our material (for workshops or on the web) will be able to learn simply by listening to his lectures and viewing the interactive power point presentations that accompany them.

Don't take our word for it- check out a few of the testimonials Herb and our team have received through the years.

About Using this Site

Teachers realize that the ultimate test of mastering new material is how effectively they transmit that material to their students. As a consequence it is only natural for them to ask such questions as “How can I use this material in my classroom?”

Our website is dedicated to answering that question. Our experience indicates that students, especially those who do not expect to enter a mathematics-related field, see mathematics as a series of disconnected topics, none of which have a direct bearing on their lives. The material that you will find on this website is based on a single thread that unifies the entire mathematics curriculum and at the same time interweaves mathematics with history, language, art and science in a way that all ages and learning styles can appreciate.

Math can really make a difference. And I'm not just talking about using subtraction.

Someone famous in The Joy of Math

I always wished I had an older or younger brother to guide me along with maths. Im near the end of your polynomial lectures and can`t wait to get to line integrals and Green`s theorem etc but for the moment the next lecture in itself will be a joy. Many thanks ! An eng. graduate refreshing what I should have known!!!!

If I were again beginning my studies, I would follow the advice of Plato and start with mathematics.
